Leafs Welcome 4 New Players

Today, the last place team in the Eastern Conference made two Blockbuster Trades. With their playoffs hopes getting slimmer and slimmer with every loss, the Toronto Maple Leafs made two big trades to acquire two big-named players. In a trade with the Calgary Flames, Toronto sent 4 players, Stajan, Mayers, White, and Hagman, in return for defensemens DION PHANEUF, Keith Aulie and forward Fredrik Sjostrom. The 24-year old Phaneuf is a hard-hitting defensemen, who has 10 goals and 12 assists on the season.

The second trade of the day made by GM Brian Burke sent goalie Vesa Toskala and "overpaid" forward Jason Blake to the Anaheim Ducks. Joining the the blue and white is goaltender Jean-Sebastien Gigeure. The former former Vezina Trophy winner has a Stanley Cup under his belt, and adds veteran leadership to the team, as well as a goalie who knows how to get it done.

With these two blockbuster trades, the Maple Leafs send 6 players packing, trading away 30% of their team. The new look leafs are still 12 points out of a playoff in the East, but have looked to make big moves that will definitely affect this offseason; you can mark a goalie off the list. Both players have multi-yeared contracts.
